Are you a skilled communications and PR professional? Zoos SA is seeking a Senior Communications Coordinator to join our passionate team.

 

The Senior Communications Coordinator plays a key role in shaping and executing communication strategies to enhance Zoos SA's visibility, reputation, and engagement. This role handles media relations, public relations, social media, and communication efforts to promote Zoos SA’s conservation work and attract visitors to Adelaide Zoo and Monarto Safari Park. The position involves managing meaningful relationships, aligning with the organization's goals, and supporting leadership in achieving communication objectives.

 

ABOUT THE ROLE...

This is a key role in the Public Relations team on a 10-month maternity leave full-time contract and has the following responsibilities:

  • Cultivate and manage strong, ongoing relationships with media outlets, journalists, and key influencers to increase positive media coverage and public awareness of Zoos SA’s work.
  • Lead the creation and distribution of high-impact media materials, including press releases, statements, vision and other content to ensure timely, strategic communication.
  • Oversee the creation and distribution of high-quality content across various platforms, including digital, social media, and print.
  • Development of engaging content that resonates with target audiences, including storytelling, visual media, and educational resources that support Zoos SA’s conservation mission.
  • Monitor and analyse media and social media coverage to gauge the impact of communication efforts and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Support the management of communication during crisis situations, ensuring timely and accurate messaging to internal and external stakeholders.

 

ABOUT YOU...

To be considered for this position, you will need to meet the following essential criteria:

  • Tertiary studies in media, journalism, public relations, marketing, or relevant experience

  • Extensive experience in public relations, communications, media, content creation, and social media management

  • Strong copywriting and community engagement skills with a solid understanding of the South Australian media landscape

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to simplify complex topics

  • Detail-oriented, accurate, and able to work under pressure to meet deadlines

  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, and observational skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite

Desirable skills, experience & knowledge:

  • Knowledge of conservation and environmental issues applied in a visitor-focused setting
  • Demonstrated experience in a tourism facility or similar
  • Experience leading and mentoring junior staff
