Zoos SA is a not-for-profit conservation charity that exists to save species from extinction and connect people with nature. As one of the largest open range zoos in the world, spanning more than 1,500 hectares of fauna and flora, we're excited to be expanding Monarto Safari Park, the largest safari park that will exist outside of Africa. We're also excited to be expanding Monarto Safari Park with a first-of-its-kind luxury resort, luxury tents and lodge facilities. In May 2025 Monarto Safari Park began offering longer visits and a range of new and wild safari experiences in an area known as Wild Africa including incredible tours through herds of roaming animals. Monarto Safari Park is looking for motivated and enthusiastic Keepers to register their interest for casual work (Carnivores, Ungulates or Natives), working across a 7-day roster. ABOUT THE ROLE... The successful applicants will be responsible for a variety of daily husbandry duties and presentations. You will be motivated, organised, with great time management skills and contribute meaningfully to our shared goals. As part of our Life Sciences team, your range of daily duties will include: - Obtain, prepare and provide food to animals in accordance with established diets and feeding procedures;
- Clean food and water vessels, holding areas, exhibits, food preparation and storage areas to required standards;
- Provide animals with all materials and other items required to meet their behavioural and enrichment needs;
- Observe and report on animal behaviour;
- Observe and report on all aspects of individual animal’s daily condition and health status;
- Maintain diaries and records and report matters of interest to the Supervisor Keeper;
- Participate in the delivery of behavioural enrichment and training to positively influence animal behaviour and enhance stress free examination and procedures;
- Undertake informal and formal presentations and ‘Keeper Talks' in an engaging and welcoming manner across a wide variety of presentation contexts;
- Working consistently in accordance with established safety procedures to ensure animal security, personal safety, protection of coworkers and our visitors;
- Work in line with relevant Policy and Procedures/Standard Operating Procedures and providing feedback and proactive suggestions for change as required; and
- Work in line with Zoos SA’s purpose aspiration and values.
ABOUT YOU... To be considered for these positions you will need to meet the following selection criteria: - Practical experience in an animal-related role;
- Certificate III in Captive Animal Management is desirable (and will be regarded favourably);
- Manual car driving experience;
- CFS training desirable;
- Firearms licence desirable;
- Knowledge and understanding of Workplace Health & Safety principles and process;
- Ability to deliver informative and engaging presentations that relay our conservation messaging; and
- High level of communication and interpersonal skills with peers, volunteers and visitors with the emphasis on listening ability, objective self-reflection, proactive response and team spirit.
