At Adelaide Zoo and Monarto Safari Park, our Veterinary team plays a vital role in supporting the health, welfare and wellbeing of a diverse range of animals.

We are looking for experienced and enthusiastic Veterinary Nurses to join our team on a casual basis, supporting veterinary operations across Adelaide Zoo and Monarto Safari Park.

This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside experienced veterinarians and veterinary nurses in a unique zoological environment, caring for a diverse range of native, exotic and zoo animals.

ABOUT THE ROLE...
As a Casual Veterinary Nurse, you will provide nursing support across our Animal Health Centre and veterinary operations, assisting with everything from routine preventative healthcare through to emergency and critical care.

Your days will be varied and may include supporting veterinary procedures, monitoring animals, assisting with surgery, collecting pathology samples and maintaining the Animal Health Centre.

Key duties will include:

• Providing high quality nursing care to a diverse range of zoo and wildlife species.
• Assisting veterinarians with examinations, procedures and routine surgical cases.
• Providing pre and post operative care, including monitoring recovery.
• Assisting with emergency and critical care.
• Monitoring animal health, behaviour and condition and reporting concerns.
• Collecting and processing pathology samples and assisting with diagnostic testing.
• Maintaining accurate animal health, treatment and clinical records.
• Maintaining the cleanliness, hygiene, equipment and stock levels of the Animal Health Centre.
• Working safely and in accordance with veterinary, WHS, biosecurity and animal welfare procedures.
• Working collaboratively with veterinarians, Veterinary Nurses and other Zoos SA teams

ABOUT YOU...
We are looking for Veterinary Nurses who are confident, adaptable and passionate about providing high standards of animal care.

To be considered, you will have:

• A recognised Veterinary Nursing qualification or relevant experience.
• Experience working in a veterinary nursing environment.
• Strong animal handling and nursing skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records.
• The ability to remain calm and organised in emergency or high pressure situations.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• A commitment to animal welfare and high standards of clinical care.
• A strong understanding of Workplace Health and Safety and safe animal handling practices.
• Experience working with exotic, wildlife or zoo animals is highly desirable.
• The ability to work across a 7 day roster, including weekends and public holidays. Flexibility to undertake occasional after hours work as required.
• You will also need to be willing to undertake and maintain vaccinations required for the role, including rabies, tetanus, hepatitis and Q fever, where applicable.
